Héliogravure on chiffon paper
‘Created especially by Edouard Elias and Fanny Boucher for the WONDER LAB exhibition organised by HEART & crafts in China, MEMORIAM establishes a dialogue between a forest of 29 matrixes and a print that is 29-metres long and whose impression is in itself a genuine technical feat.
Together they chose 29 images among the 97,000 or so photos taken by Elias in Syria, Iraq and Bangladesh. They framed faces and landscapes, gestures and materials, with the shared objective of rendering this reality timeless, of showing the universal nature of emotions. The MEMORIAM print should be seen as a single image made of 29 moments, linked together by the white paper, which represents what happens off camera, a breath, a space for silence.’
– Hélène Kelmachter, curator of the WONDER LAB exhibition
Alongside the installation, 32 héliogravures have been printed on Hahnemühle paper, in five limited editions, numbered and signed.
